Tarkington, (Newton) Booth
(29 jul. 1869, Indianápolis, Ind.,EE.UU.–19 may. 1946, Indianápolis).

Novelista y dramaturgo estadounidense. Se le conoce por retratar con tintes satíricos, humorísticos y en ocasiones sentimentales a los habitantes del medio Oeste estadounidense. Sus obras están protagonizadas por niños o adolescentes, como en los clásicos juveniles Penrod (1914), Seventeen [Diecisiete] (1916) y Gentle Julia [La dulce Julia] (1922). The Magnificent Ambersons (1918, Premio Pulitzer; película, 1942), traza la decadencia de una familia antaño poderosa y prominente, forma parte de la trilogía Growth [Desarrollo] (1927). Su novela más lograda es probablemente Alice Adams (1921; película, 1923, 1935), un penetrante estudio del carácter de una mujer.
